So today is Yom Kippur on the Jewish calendar. It's the holiest day of the year. It's the day when Jews around the world fast and spend the day in temple to atone for their sins. You must fast for 26 hours from sundown to sundown. As I come from a very non-religious family, and my mother is Methodist, I have never fasted. I also forgot this morning and had a bagel for breakfast. But then I thought about it, and it would be a good thing to do. To sort of let God know I care. But I already messed up. Then I realized, I am only half Jewish! I can just fast HALFway! It's brilliant! So my decision is to skip lunch and eat a late dinner to break the fast after sundown, and because I will seriously shake myself into a food induced stuppor if I have zero food all day, I am going to allow myself Starbuck's--possibly even Java Chip!
(And by the way, if you were wondering, there is a loophole for pregnant mothers, the elderly and those with medical conditions. I have always wondered if my low blood sugar counts. I mean, I literally SHAKE without food...) So in any case, wish me luck and good atonement, and have a Happy New Year! It's 5766 in case you were curious.
