Unisex Names Should Have a M or F After Them
Yesterday I subbed for a volleyball team that was short players. One of the players had e-mailed me from the singles (meaning you are an individual person, not that you are romantically unattached) board, looking for a teammate for their tuesday night team. I had to turn them down because I just couldn't commit to another team this season...I am already in three leagues! But I said I would gladly sub for them if they needed it. They did, so Kelly told me where to meet and what to look for to find them. I went to the designated location and asked aloud if anyone was Kelly. A guy said "That's me!" Huh??? I had been talking to him via e-mail and it never occurred to me that Kelly could be a guy!! He had said he was 6 feet tall...that's pretty average for a guy in volleyball so I figured I was talking to a tall girl and that's why she gave her height--because it distinguished her! I was SO embarrassed! I had gotten another player to sub as well that was a guy, thinking Kelly was a girl and therefore we had 2 girls and a guy and needed another guy...oops...He was nice about it though. He said it happens all the it does!

I think that unisex names should be completely stricken from the record. It's too much work!

I'm in sales, and I hate when I get a message to call Jesse or Jamie. I never know. And I always guess wrong.

There are also a lot of old school people in my business, so I can also go wrong with Kim, Lauren, and Leslie. I'll stick with getting my name misspelled and mispronounced.
